Default mesmer pvp?

i've done some searching, and I'm still not sure what to do. I want to make mesmer for pvp, and from what I've been reading, either Ele or Necro is the way to go for a secondary. I want to use, preferably, 2 attribute lines in Mes, and one in whatever my secondary is. I'm leaning towards Me/N, using Inspiration, Fast casting, and Curses. Any suggestions?

Oh, and I just created my character in NF, although I have all 3 campaigns.

In all honesty, the type of mesmer you should make for PvP depends on the PvP format and team build you will be using.

In GvG, the most common combinations are probably Me/Mo for Res Chant, Draw Conditions, and/or Purge Signet; Me/E for Blinding Surge and/or Gale; Me/P for "Incoming!," "Brace Yourself!," and/or other utility shouts like "Fall Back!" or Godspeed; Me/A for Deadly Paradox/Feigned Neutrality, Shadow of Haste, and/or Dash--the last one will probably die out after the nerfs to SoH and FN though. Me/N might see play in a hex-heavy team, but the above are more common.

On the other hand, you'll tend to see very different mesmer builds in RA/TA. Me/A or Me/W is common for Illusionary Weaponry builds. Me/N is common for Fragility spiking or just plain Fast Cast hex spam. You might also see combinations common to GvG but modded more for 4v4.

The secondary you choose when starting your character will have no real effect on PvP since you can change it after you ascend and using a non-ascended character in PvP is a very bad idea. The only effect it could potentially have is if you started in Prophecies, you would be able to unlock some skills for your secondary. In Nightfall you buy all the skills, so it doesn't matter whether you choose a secondary sooner or later.

Me/N with FC Curse can definitely work. The downside is that you will have a lower level in Curses than a primary necro and thus your hexes will be less effective. I would recommend focusing more on your mesmer lines and maybe dabble a little in curses as needed. For instance, Parasitic Bond makes a good cover hex even with only a couple points in Curses. Domination has many skills similar to the Curses line so that's what I'd recommend if you want for PvE. Empathy, Backfire, and Spiritual Pain are PvE staples.

Its good to unlock skills for PvP using a character in prophecies, however if u wanna play pvp it would be better to roll up a pvp character which u can modify at will, with the best stuff u can get for free (if you have it unlocked).

Well. the pvp I will be doing is mostly AB and TA/RA. I want to start out as a pve character, just because i have yet to finish the NF storyline. I need to pick a secondary soon, so which type of build should I be looking at?

If you want to try Me/N with Curses, go for it. If you want to use mostly mesmer skills, go Me/Mo for fast cast hard res. If you want to use Glyph of Renewal to use your mesmer skills more, or if you want to go fast cast nuker, go Me/E. Which one you choose really won't matter in the long run. You'll be able to change your secondary after you do a few missions and a handful of quests (in Nightfall anyway).

me/e for glyph of lesser, because that is amazing energy management. Not to mention you still have time to use blinding surge before it's unplayable on mesmer.

Making Blinding Surge cost 10 energy will not stop me from using it on my Mesmer. I will just bring Air Attunement and energy management will not be a problem anymore. Besides, when I put Blinding Surge on my Mesmer I also bring Spirit of Failure with me.

jjyank,

If you are going to use Me/N for Curse I would recommend using a Necromancer primary instead. Necromancer primaries can cast more potent spells then a Mesmer. Fast Casting will not be that helpful because the core Curse spells have 1 seconds casting time (Do not use Malaise without Life Siphon). You would be better with Soul Reaping. I only time I use Me/N for Curse is if I am running Recurring Soul Build build (A build that I use to like to run but not anymore because of divert hexes is common after the release of Nightfall). It is hard to recommend a build for you when you just say PVP as there are many types, 4 vs 4 or 6 vs 6 or 12 vs 12 or gvg. But a good starter build for PVP Mesmer would the the general diversion/punishment/shutdown build.

Thanks for the replies! I think I'm going to scrap a necro secondary, so it appears that ele would be the best option for a secondary. I want to use mainly mesmer skills though. Which attribute lines do you recommend I focus on?

Domination is the best in my opinion. For PvE and PvP.
